Kathleen Brown

I'm a PhD candidate in Political Science at Leiden University.

I study the politics of public debt and focus on financial statecraft in emerging market governments. I investigate how transparency, corruption, and domestic and international political constraints shape government decisions to borrow, how much, and from whom.

I also contribute to the ERC-funded project "Microfoundations of Debt Crises" (MIDEBT, PI: Matthew DiGiuseppe). This research investigates the formation of voters' fiscal preferences using survey experiments.

My work has been published in the Review of International Organizations, the Review of International Political Economy, New Political Economy, European Journal of Political Research, and Population and Development Review
